நாராயணா என்னும் நாமம்

आपो नारा इति प्रोक्ताः आपो वै नरसूनवः।
ताः यदस्यायतनं पूर्वं तेन नारायणः स्मृतः॥
aapo naaraa iti proktaaH aapo vai narasuunavaH.
taaH yadasyaayatanaM puurvaM tena naaraayaNaH smR^itaH.
Waters are known as ‘नारा’ since they are born of ‘नर’, the paramatma. Because the waters were the resting place (अयनं) for the Lord in the beginning He is known as Narayana

The following mantra from Narayanopanishad says:

यच्चकिञ्चिज्जगत्सर्वं दृश्यते श्रूयतेऽपि वा

अन्तर्बहिश्च तत्सर्वं व्याप्य नारायणः स्थितः

Whatever is there in this world, either seen or heard, Narayana pervades inside and outside of all that.

நாராயண மந்திரத்தை சொல்வதால் ஏற்படும் நன்மைகளை திரு மங்கை ஆழ்வார் மற்றும் சிலர் கூறுவதை பார்ப்போம்.

குலம் தரும்; செல்வம் தந்திடும்; அடியார்

படுதுயர் ஆயின எல்லாம்

நிலந்தரஞ்செய்யும்; நீள் விசும்பு அருளும்;

அருளொடு பெரு நிலம் அளிக்கும்;

வலம் தரும்; மற்றும் தந்திடும்; பெற்ற

தாயினும் ஆயின செய்யும்;

நலம் தரும் சொல்லை நான் கண்டுகொண்டேன்

நாராயணா என்னும் நாமம்- 

கம்பன் இதையே இராம நாமத்தினால் கிடைக்கும் என்பான்:-

நன்மையும் செல்வமும் நாளும் நல்குமே

தின்மையும் பாவமும் சிதைந்து தேயுமே

சென்மமும் மரணமும் இன்றித் தீருமே

இம்மையே இராம என்ற இரண்டெழுத்தினால்.

  

நாடிய பொருள் கைகூடும் ஞானமும் புகழும் உண்டாம்

வீ டியல் வழியதாக்கும் வேரியம் கமலை நோக்கும்

நீடிய அரக்கர் சேனை நீறு பட்டழிய வாகை

சூடிய சிலையிராமன் தோள்வலி கூறுவார்க்கே.

தனம் தரும், கல்வி தரும், ஒருநாளும் தளர்வறியா

மனம் தரும்; தெய்வ வடிவும் தரும்- நெஞ்சில் வஞ்சமில்லா

இனம் தரும்; நல்லனவெல்லாம் தரும் அனபர் என்பவர்க்கே கனம்தரும் பூங்குழலாள் அபிராமி கடைக்கண்களே–அபிராமி அந்தாதி.

கண்ணன் கழலிணை, - நண்ணும் மனமுடையீர்,
எண்ணும் திருநாமம், - திண்ணம் நாரணமே.

Ps: Narayana is the 245th name in Vishnu Sahasranama.
Sankara Bhashya gives the following meanings:
नर आत्मा, ततो जातान्याकाशादीनि नाराणि कार्याणि तानि अयं कारणात्मना व्याप्नोति, अतश्च तान्ययनमस्येति नारायणः
‘नर’ means Atman and the elements of earth, water, fire, air and space which are born out of it are ‘नाराणि’  which are pervaded by the Atman  as the cause.  Therefore they (नाराणि) are the dwelling place( अयन) of the Atman. Therefore the name of the Lord is narayana
